Here's my Friday question for Erie: what's an album you'd love to make someone sit down and actually LISTEN to?

Not put on in the background. Not skip through. Listen to.

That's the spirit of Low Volume Vinyl Listening Night at the Temple. Bring a record, look through the sleeves, talk music with people who still get a kick out of the whole thing. The volume stays low enough that you can hear each other between tracks.

THE DRAWING BOARD // BAD DRAWINGS WELCOME

There are drawings you finish. And there are drawings you learn something from.

Those aren't always the same drawings.

A finished character can look effortless until you see the pages that came before it: the wrong angle, the uncertain line, the expression that wouldn't cooperate.

We're interested in those pages, too.

Find an old sketch that you abandoned. Don't throw it out. Try it again on a fresh sheet and keep both versions. You might see something you couldn't see the first time.

We're looking for artists, makers, craftspeople, and small creative businesses to join us for the final three markets of the year at Erie Labor Temple. And we're opening the second floor for November and December.

The third-floor UNION Fine Art Gallery will be open during the Holiday Market with WHAT STILL HOLDS, featuring Jared K. Faulkner and Christian Frontera.

You don't need a storefront or a fancy pitch. If you're making something worth putting in front of people, we'd like to hear from you.

Every Thursday evening, Marquis Darnell (CashewDude) leads a working session for drawing, characters, comics, and visual storytelling. Bring an existing project or start with a blank page. Beginners and experienced artists are welcome. Each Thursday is its own session—no semester commitment.

I've known writers who can spend three hours moving a comma back and forth. I might have done it myself once or twice.

If that's your kind of problem, we've got a Wednesday night for you.

Writer's Night at Erie Labor Temple is a place to write around other people doing the same thing. Bring a poem, a half-finished story, a journal, a script — whatever's currently winning or losing the argument with you.

Nobody's required to read aloud or talk about what they're doing. Get some words down. Have a conversation if you feel like it. Maybe go home having made progress on something.
