How are adobe bricks made?

First a mixture of sand and clay is combined with water and organic materials like straw. The straw provides structural integrity making the bricks more durable. Different colors of clay result in different colored bricks!
The mud mixture is then scooped and leveled into wooden molds and left in the sun to begin the drying process.
After a couple of days, the bricks can be removed from the molds once they can hold their shape on their own.
After being removed from their molds the bricks continue to lay in the sun and are periodically rotated for multiple weeks till they are completely dry throughout. They make for a strong building material.

Sanpete Scenes author Gary B. Peterson recently passed away. His family has donated these books to the Ephraim Heritage Museum and pioneer park run by Fort Ephraim Camp Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. We have a limited supply. Come and get yours while they are here because when they are gone they're gone.
