With August quickly coming to an end, we are approaching the beginning of our Fall hours. Starting next week, our historic sites will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Don’t miss out on a chance to take a History Tram Tour as the leaves change either! Tram tours can be booked on our website, and are available every Thursday and Friday from September 3 until our season ends on October 10. Stay tuned for plenty more Fall activities and events 🍁

Back by popular demand (and because we just like doing it). The 3rd Annual Vintage in the Village Market hosted in collaboration with Rusty Dusty Vintage & Records will be on the Svalhus lawn from 10-5 on Saturday, September 12.

Enjoy the views, buy cool stuff from nationally renowned vendors, check out free museums, get some food, whatever just come hang out!

Our 2026 feature exhibit “Fields of Arrival” will be open and free to see, as will our newly reinterpreted Anderson General Store museum with its cool new gift shop!

Did you know one of Ephraim’s most beloved gift stores began in a tiny cabin?

In 1933, Doris Heise Miller opened the first Cabin Craft in the Svalhus, a small 1890 “cooling house” that now sits on the Ephraim Historical Foundation lawn.

What started as a humble shop quickly grew into a beloved Ephraim institution, eventually expanding to five locations throughout the village. Doris sold custom jewelry, artwork, clothing, home décor, and unique treasures collected from her travels.

For 39 years, Cabin Craft brought creativity and craftsmanship to Ephraim. Though the shops closed in 1972, Doris’s legacy—and many of her beautiful creations—remain part of the community today.

Have you visited our pop-up exhibit at the Pioneer Schoolhouse Museum?

Stop by Fridays in August from 10 am-4 pm to explore “We Stand on Their Shoulders”: A History of Wisconsin Women and Voting, a traveling display from the Wisconsin Historical Society!

The display covers the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the 1921 Wisconsin Equal Rights Act, the 1924 Indian Citizenship Act, and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

Love Hollyhocks? We have seeds! 🌸

These tall, towering plants produce vibrant blooms and absolutely love sunny spots. Because they are biennials, they flower every other year but stay completely low-maintenance by naturally self-seeding.

The hollyhocks surrounding the Historic Anderson Store have become a beloved summer tradition for generations of visitors. We are incredibly fortunate to have had dedicated volunteers care for them over the years, including Betty Chomeau, Susie Samson, and now Dr. Mandy Miller. Thanks to their time and dedication, this colorful tradition continues to welcome guests each season.

It is not too late to plant them! Sowing hollyhock seeds in late summer gives them plenty of time to establish strong roots before winter, ensuring a beautiful, colorful display by next summer.

Stop in at our new gift shop inside the Anderson Store Museum to pick up a packet of hollyhock seeds and bring a little piece of Ephraim history home with you! 🌸

The Wisconsin Historical Society - Local History Committee Northeast Regional Meeting is in the works for Monday, July 20. We are honored to host this event and look forward to sharing resources, knowledge, and local history with our guests!

(Starting Tomorrow) Every Friday in July & August from 10 - 4 PM, explore a special pop-up exhibit featuring unique artifacts from our archives that create local connections between America’s 250th and the history of Ephraim.
