The San Dieguito Heritage Museum was founded in 1988 to preserve artifacts, records and stories about the 7 communities of San Dieguito The San Dieguito Heritage Museum was founded in 1988 to preserve artifacts, records and stories pertaining to the history of the communities of the San Dieguito River area.
The founders had deep roots in the local communities and cherished the uniqueness of the history in the area. They sought to preserve and share this history through a combination of hands-on history experiences as well as traditional exhibits. The museum’s recent move to a new building on over an acre of property will allow the dreams to be realized.

The San Dieguito Heritage Museum has over the decades accessioned and preserved many wedding dresses. After a recent reorganization of our storage, we found a delightful number of them in such good condition, Mary Lou Binkenz decided to create an exhibit in her family's farmhouse, The Teten House, open Saturdays, noon to 4 PM.

Jeff Zevely of the Zevely Zone, CBS Channel 8, in San Diego, came to the Ranch today to feature Dillon Tarle, a Boy Scout, who for his Eagle badge, chose to construct this magnificent pergola, to bring shade to the Teten Farmhouse porch area. The broadcaast can be seen Thursday, April 15, at 4 and 6 PM on the Zevely Zone

San Diego County Fair has been approved by the 22nd District Agricultural Association to run June 11 to July 4 ending with a July 4 fireworks show. Details are still being decided regarding theme, ticket prices, parking, budget and logistics. What we know so far is that it will be a scaled down version allowing only 10,000 visitors a day. It will have many food vendors, exhibits, contests and shows, and will be agriculture based with health safety the top priority. All details will be decided and released following their April board meeting. Although rides and big grandstand concerts will not happen this summer, we are keeping fingers crossed that along with crazy fair food and agriculture and other exhibits, that there will be live music, magic shows, comedy, and other shows in this summers plans. Admission and parking tickets, along with all other details will be posted on SDFair.com in April. We're on top of this, so keep an eye on this page! Sooo happy to have the Fair return!

Please consider and COME volunteer with SDHM at the Heritage Ranch! ONE of our youngest volunteers, Kirstin Mueller, wrote of her experience, and an invitation for more of you to join in on the fun! "I came to the Heritage Museum for my resume, but I’ve stayed for everything else. For years, my life has been overwhelmed by school, but now that I’m at the museum, I have variation in my week. The museum is always in motion, and there is always something new for me to do or learn. I’ve been able to do all sorts of work, from taking inventory for the gift shop to pulling up old plants. It lets me do things that I wouldn’t normally get to do. I have something that I can throw myself into. The museum is a breath of fresh air for me, both figuratively and literally. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the people I meet here come from all sorts of backgrounds and let me see new perspectives; yet as diverse as the volunteers are, there is no one who isn’t nice. Everybody is pleasant to talk to. Yes, the the Heritage Museum looks good on college applications, but that doesn’t hold a candle to the real reasons that I volunteer.” Our Museum would could not operate, nor would it be open without the constant work of our tireless volunteers. Volunteers comprise 90% +/- of the "work force" here. There are only 1 and 2 halves paid staff working at the museum. Today's "Scene", being serenaded by "Two of Us plus One, our favorite Willie Nelson tribute band! We hope you made it and had a real good time.
O'Jay Vanegas demonstrating the construction and proper use the Rattle, as he explains it, it is the "drum" of the Kumeyaay/Diegueño people when singing their songs.
Shoppin' til we dropped. We actually wiped El Greengo's Gourmet Truck out of Puerto Nuevo Lobster Cheese sandwiches! We are ever so grateful to our courageous vendors who gave us a try on this our inaugural Vintage Faire!
