Phil Flemming wasn't just an Encampment resident hauling gravel. He was a long-time legend at Winter Park Ski Area serving on the ski patrol, ski instructor, and more. These two photos are of Phil working on the ski patrol in the 1960s grooming the slopes at Winter Park with the Bradley Packer, the world's first ski slope grooming machine, invented at Winter Park around 1950. A pilot of the Packer could hit speed in excess of 80mph while guiding the 700lb machine.
