Ely Winton Historical Society

Ely Winton Historical Society The Ely-Winton History Museum and Office are open from 12:00 to 4:00 PM Wednesday through Saturday or by appointment.

The mission of the Ely-Winton History Museum is to arrange rotating displays of historical artifacts in a visible public place, and this continues to this day. Newspaper articles about local history were written from time to time, but now these articles are specifically related to the artifacts and themes of the rotating displays. The first display window featured mining and logging artifacts. Our

current one features pictures and artifacts centering on the beginnings of all 13 area churches. These exhibits still meet three of the original stated purposes: collecting and preserving, educating, and providing information for tourists.

“We have come to know that every individual lives, from one generation to the next, in some society; that he lives out a biography, and that he lives it out within some historical sequence. By the fact of his living he contributes, however minutely, to the shaping of this society and to the course of its history, even as he is made by society and by its historical push and shove.” - C. Wright Mills

Join us in exploring the work of C. Wright Mills in a presentation by Minnesota North Sociology instructor, Claire Anderson for a special 2-part event on April 21 and April 28!
