Our Story

Rachel Hellenga is on a mission to create gender-friendly paths to technology by combining DIY circuit boards and LEDs with LEGO, paper crafts, sewing, jewelry, handbags, doll houses, matchboxes, and stuffed animals. She collaborates with a far-flung team of clients, free-lancers and generous volunteers to design makerspace activity stations, invention kits, interactive exhibits, and workshops for libraries, science centers & children's museums.

Rachel’s largest museum project was the physics exhibition Science Storms with a 3-story tornado at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry. More recently she invented and patented a system for adding electronics to LEGO with conductive tape. Rachel is a member of the Workshop 88 and Pumping Station One makerspaces in the Chicago area and has participated in Maker Faires, Toy Fairs, STEM fairs, and LEGO conventions all over the country. She is a regular at BrickWorld Chicago, BrickWorld Virginia, Bay Area Maker Faire, New York Maker Faire, and a host of Chicago-area maker events.
