Thank you, Ellinwood! ❤️

We had a wonderful evening at last night’s Martinis & Weenies fundraiser for the Museum of Ellinwood’s "Our Roof. Our History." campaign. Great food, good conversation, and time spent with people who care about preserving our community’s history.

A big thank-you to everyone who came out to support the museum, and especially to the Historical Society members and Board volunteers who helped set up, prepare food, and clean up. These events take a lot of willing hands, and we’re grateful for every one of them.

Last night was a good reminder of how fortunate we are to have people who continue to show up for their community and support the things that matter.

Together, we raised approximately $1,300! Combined with our $4,000 grant from the Golden Belt Community Foundation, we're now at roughly $5,300 toward protecting the museum and the history it holds.

Thank you for being part of this effort. We have more work ahead, and we're grateful to be getting started with such wonderful support.

Martini’s & Weenies Fundraiser Kick-Off Celebration

Join us Monday, October 12, from 5:00–7:00 PM at Kansas Earth and Sky Candle Co., 23 N. Main Street, as we kick off the Museum of Ellinwood’s 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙛. 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮. campaign.

Enjoy free brats, graciously donated by Ellinwood Packing Plant, Inc., and non-alcoholic drinks while learning more about the project and how you can help.

The Museum of Ellinwood will also be open during the event, so come take a look inside and see the history we’re working to preserve.

We’ll introduce our Adopt a Square Foot fundraiser and share how you can help protect the museum and the stories, photographs, documents and artifacts inside.

WHAT ARE WE PROTECTING?

We're protecting the photographs that help us recognize the faces of the past. The records that tell us how our town grew. The objects that passed through someone's hands long before they found their way to the museum.

Every piece holds a little part of Ellinwood's story. Together, they help us understand where we came from and preserve that history for the people who come after us.

But preserving history takes more than keeping the doors open. It takes caring for the building that houses it, too.

The Museum of Ellinwood needs roof repairs to help protect its artifacts, archives, and displays. That's why we're raising funds through our Our Roof. Our History. campaign.

Join us October 12, from 5–7 p.m. for Martinis & Weenies, a casual community fundraiser with brats, nonalcoholic drinks, and a chance to visit the museum.

🌭🍸 WAIT. WHAT ARE MARTINIS & WEENIES?

Fair question. 😂

It’s a casual community fundraiser for the Museum of Ellinwood!

We’re serving hot dogs, brats, and nonalcoholic drinks, opening the museum for a visit, and raising money for something that isn’t quite as funny as the event name: our roof.

The museum’s roof needs repair, and we need to raise funds to help protect the artifacts, photographs, documents, and stories that belong to our community.

So come as you are. You don’t need to know anything about martinis, and there’s no fancy dress code. Just stop by, grab something to eat, visit with us, and help preserve a little piece of Ellinwood history.

We have some good news to share.

The Museum of Ellinwood has been awarded a $4,000 grant from the Golden Belt Community Foundation to help protect the museum’s archives, collections and displays.

We are very grateful for their support.

Protecting those materials requires taking care of the building that houses them. As part of that work, we need to repair sections of the walls and replace the museum’s roof.

The Foundation’s support gives us an important start toward that work, and we are grateful for their investment in preserving Ellinwood’s history.

We’ll be sharing more soon about the project and how our community can help.

There’s a story behind our new logo.

The building featured in the design comes from an historic photograph of Kimpler’s Furniture, a longtime Ellinwood business.

When we were choosing a new logo for the Museum of Ellinwood, we wanted something that felt unmistakably connected to Ellinwood and to the history we work to preserve.

We’ve also added “Museum of Ellinwood | Ellinwood Community Historical Society” to better reflect who we are and the work we do.

A community’s history is worth remembering. We’re proud to help preserve Ellinwood’s.

Today is the perfect day to come visit the museum!

We’re so thankful for Lois and for all of the volunteers who give their time and knowledge to help keep Ellinwood’s history alive. There is so much to see, learn, and appreciate in the museum’s displays. We hope you’ll stop in and take a look!

We thank Lois Hammer for sharing historic facts about life in Ellinwood over the last 250 years at Monday’s potluck. She encouraged us to visit the displays at the Ellinwood Museum.
