Have you heard any legends about quilt codes? To commemorate this Juneteenth, we’re getting creative with the North Star, Sawtooth, or 8 pointed star pattern…and keeping our fingers crossed we might find evidence of an Underground Railroad era quilt to decode…

Legends and myths serve as vital placeholders in oral history. We choose to honor qualitative histories about folk technologies as a culturally-informed best practice. New information is frequently uncovered about the UGRR, and we’re hoping more data on coded textiles will be established in the future. Happy Juneteenth! ✨
