Black History Month is a time to honor the stories, achievements, and lasting impact of Black leaders, creators, and community builders, both close to home and across the nation.

Elberton is fortunate to have the Jim-Ree African American Museum preserving and sharing the powerful contributions of local residents alongside nationally recognized figures, ensuring these stories continue to inspire future generations.

Stop by and experience this important history for yourself. The museum is open every Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Come learn, reflect, and celebrate with us.

We are planning on having our membership drive tomorrow morning. We hope you will join us at 10:00 AM to take a tour of the museum, and then transition to the Civic Center at 11:00 to enjoy a brunch as we celebrate Jim-Ree milestones!

This past year at the Jim-Ree Museum was filled with connection, learning, and celebration. From participating in Main Street Elberton’s Trick or Treat, to hosting a powerful panel discussion on Intergenerational Trauma on day one of Kwanzaa and gathering for a community feast on day two, we continued our commitment to history that lives and breathes through people. We were honored to sponsor Juneteenth festivities once again and to help make history ourselves with the very first Juneteenth Parade in Elberton.

We invite you to be part of what’s next. Join us for the Jim-Ree Museum Membership Drive on Saturday, January 24 at 10 AM at the Jim-Ree Museum, followed by brunch at 11 AM at the Elberton Civic Center. Come learn more, connect with neighbors, and help us continue this important work together. 💙

Planning is officially underway! 🎉

Yesterday, members of the Jim-Ree Museum Juneteenth Planning Committee met with City of Elberton leaders to begin laying the groundwork for the 2026 Juneteenth Celebration, and the excitement is already building. This is shaping up to be our best parade and festival yet!

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Daniel Graves, City Manager Kevin Eavenson, City Clerk Cindy Churney, Main Street Elberton Director Crystal Bebe, and Capt. Joey David with the Elberton Police Department for their partnership and support.

Great things truly happen when people come together. This celebration will be one of the best.
