Nile & Marzell Smith Museum of African American History Marzell Smith understood the necessity for the collection, organizing,and disseminating of African American history in South Arkansas. Mrs.

She along with her husband (Nile E. Smith) opened the first location in October 2003 on the corner of Grove & Columbia St. The second location was opened in the old Goodwin home on 5th & Ouachita. Smith convince the EL Dorado School District to deed the property to Nile & Marzell Smith Museum of African American History. Nile & Marzell Smith realized the importance of information ,and had a desire to collect and share the history of African American people as well as others to South Arkansas.
