We can't just take anyone into our circle. They've got to answer a few simple questions first. Weirdness matters, people!

We realized that we never posted the October newsletter out here, but better late than never! We worked really hard on making this one, and hope everyone will enjoy it! 😅

Also, Happy (early) Halloween!

We aren't sure of Benjamin Stephenson's cause of death, but we do know that many medical practices of the time would not have helped him survive. Doctors still did practices like bloodletting and blistering (intentionally creating blisters and then popping them) to heal people. Some "medicines," like mercury, were downright harmful!
However, there was some good medicine back then. Around the time Stephenson died, the house was ordering "yellow bark," the common medicine for malaria. Doctors still use quinine, the healing element of yellow bark, to treat malaria today!

We are completely blown away and so deeply grateful for this incredible gift!

The amazingly talented artist and page follower, Pamela Gregan of Hold Fast Artworks Azores, created a stunning quilt inspired by our Reels! To make it even more special, she even included a little Henry the mouse. 🐭

We were so excited that we couldn't wait to share—we've already installed it in our orientation room right where visitors see it first thing! (An official informational plaque with all the background on Pamela and the quilt is on the way.)

Pamela is a wonderful expat artist, teacher, and maker based in the Azores, whose creative work spans gorgeous quilting, watercolor painting, and crafting unique pieces from recycled and salvaged materials.

If you want to see more of her incredible work and learn all about her creative journey, check out the video for her fantastic Piece By Piece (Peça a Peça) exhibit on YouTube! Thank you so much, Pamela!

Thank you to Eric for donating this pair of white pants and loaning us two jackets, one for men and one for women! We always need more clothes, especially men's clothes currently, and donations like this always help us.
