Making the Past is back for fall!
This season, our Making the Past Workshop Series is exploring the rich artistic traditions of Pennsylvania Dutch culture through three hands-on workshops at the Sigal Museum.
Each workshop will introduce participants to the history and cultural significance behind a traditional craft before giving you the opportunity to create something of your own. Whether you're an experienced maker or trying something new, no previous experience is necessary!
This fall, join us for:
🎨 Hex Sign Painting – Explore the history, designs, and symbolism behind Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs before painting your own.
🧺 Basket Weaving – Learn traditional weaving techniques and create a handmade basket while discovering the role basketry played in everyday life.
✂️ Pennsylvania German Cut Paper (Scherenschnitte) – Discover the intricate tradition of decorative paper cutting and create your own piece inspired by historic patterns and motifs.
Part craft workshop and part history lesson, Making the Past is an opportunity to get creative while connecting with the traditions that have helped shape our region for generations.
