Ten Years of Art of Darkness! 🖤🎨

Last night’s opening reception for HeARTspot’s 10th Annual Art of Darkness was a wonderful celebration of art, creativity, and community!

We had a fantastic turnout, and the artwork this year was nothing short of extraordinary. Ten years into this exhibition, I’m still amazed by the talent, imagination, and wonderfully dark creativity that our artists bring to the gallery.

Congratulations to all of our participating artists, and especially to this year’s award winners! While we missed having several of our honorees with us for the awards ceremony, I hope these photos reach them and remind them how proud they should be of their accomplishments.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who came out to celebrate, support our artists, enjoy the exhibition, and help us mark this 10-year milestone. Seeing the gallery filled with familiar faces, new visitors, wonderful conversations, and genuine appreciation for the arts is what makes these events so meaningful.

Here’s to ten years of celebrating the strange, the beautiful, the unsettling, and the extraordinary!

IMPORTANT: Our Gallery Opening for the 10th Annual Art of Darkness will be happening from 6 to 9 PM as planned tonight, but due to unforeseen circumstances, our gallery hours and classes this weekend are canceled.

Parents of children enrolled in Saturday classes have been sent an email with a promotional code for reimbursement of the single class to be used for a future registration.

We will not be resuming appointments or gallery hours until after November 6.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience, and appreciate your understanding and patience at this time.

Something’s Brewing in Middle School! 🧙‍♀️🫧🎨

Our Middle School artists had some fun with bubbling cauldrons this week!

We started with a step-by-step drawing lesson, building the shape of the cauldron before adding the bubbling potion, rising smoke, and floating bubbles.

From there, students worked with alcohol markers, blending several shades of gray to give their cauldrons a rounded, metallic appearance while establishing a consistent light source.

For the bubbling brew, students chose three colors within the same color family, carefully blending from dark to light and preserving a path of their lightest color to create the illusion of glowing liquid and smoke.

Finally, we added some finishing details with acrylic paint markers and black ink to really bring everything together!

I love how differently these turned out, especially the colors they chose for their magical concoctions! Such a fun way to explore light, shadow, blending, and a little Halloween magic! 🖤✨
