This is the result of the abstract landscape workshop I attended this week (online). I think the most valuable thing I realized wasn't about what was on the canvas.
Abstract and representational art follow the same principles regarding composition, balance, contrast, color, etc. It's the approach that is different. It is encouraging to know I have the ability, I just need to increase my confidence and of course, practice.
The goal wasn't perfection, just letting go and trusting the process.

I love abstract art. I BUY abstract art. However, producing abstract art feels like it will always be my challenge. I have recently been inspired to try again as I develop relationships with fellow artists in the area who make incredible art.
So, this is me, trying. Again.

I'll be participating in yet another art workshop all week (abstract landscapes) hoping for a real breakthrough. 🤞I guess we'll see by Friday if magic happens. 😅 no pressure, right?

This piece. It started as a quick sketch on canvas a couple of winters ago when Anchorage was experiencing "white raven mania". This last March I quickly painted a background on it while I was letting another painting dry during an art demo. A few weeks ago I was feeling "I want to paint, but I don't know what" so I grabbed it out of the million unfinished pieces I have stacked against the walls. Experimenting with color and techniques. Is it finished? I don't know. Sometimes you just have to do a thing, just to do it. Getting the creative juices flowing again.

The weather Gods smiled on us one more time. The sprinkles stopped and clouds parted long enough to enjoy a quick watercolor workshop outside. My last presentation of the season. I love that it ended on a beautiful evening.
(I'll finish this one at home.)
Thank you Katmai Nat'l Park & Preserve for giving me the opportunity to share the connection between art and our public lands. ❤️🌎🎨
