Sophea Woolner is an artist originally from Pakistan who moved to the United States at the age of 17. Her early memories are filled with vibrant colors—spice markets, sun-dried fabrics, and bright bangles—which continue to shape her visual language.
A 2022 visit to the British Museum became a turning point in her artistic journey. Seeing objects taken from the Asian subcontinent deepened her appreciation for her heritage and inspired her to reclaim its beauty through art. She began incorporating gold and silver leaf, along with rhinestones, to evoke the richness of South Asian culture.
Woolner’s work often takes the form of layered portraits rooted in her Indian and Pakistani heritage, while keeping the individual at the center—honoring cultural memory and the dignity of those she depicts. Religions Art Exhibition
