Chisholm Trail Heritage Center We celebrate the history, art, & culture of the Chisholm Trail, American West, & the American Cowboy
(303)

Toss a rope around a Longhorn steer; ride a bucking bronco; create your own brand or sit a spell near the campfire and listen to Jesse Chisholm as he offers advice to a young cowboy on his first cattle drive. In the multi-sensory Experience Theater, smell the wildflowers of a springtime Oklahoma prairie, listen to the thundering hooves of a cattle stampede, and feel the wind and rain on your face as a storm rages.

🤠❤️ Want to help bring more students and families to the Heritage Center?
Have you ever wanted to help bring students to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center?
Or support the many free community events we host all year long?

That’s exactly what your membership makes possible. Every level — big or small — helps us provide hands‑on art programs, field trips, educational outreach, and unforgettable museum experiences for our community.

And this year, it gets even better…
We’re in the middle of our Membership Drive, and when you renew or sign up for a new membership, your name goes into the drawing for a rare Chisholm Trail board game — a Heritage Center exclusive!

🎲✨ Supporting education and scoring a legendary family game night?
That’s a win‑win on the trail.

Join us, support local history, and maybe take home the board game that’s almost as rare as Jesse himself.

💙 Blue Star Moment at the Heritage Center
When you ask your Great Aunt and Uncle for a birthday trip to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, you get exactly what you wished for… and then some!

Because Great Uncle proudly served our country, this sweet family got in FREE — thanks to our participation as a Blue Star Museum. 💫

From now until Labor Day, all active‑duty service members and up to five family members receive free admission. It’s one of our favorite ways to honor the men and women who serve, and to welcome their families into a place that celebrates courage, history, and home.

💙 Always grateful. Always honored. Always welcome.

🎨✨ Only 39 days left to experience Arlyn Brantley’s “Red Dirt Roots” exhibition!

If you haven’t stopped by yet, now’s the perfect time to wander through this beautiful collection celebrating the familiar landscapes, reclaimed materials, and rural Oklahoma stories that inspired Arlyn’s work.

His pieces — crafted from salvaged lumber, weathered signage, and the textures of a disappearing countryside — have been a visitor favorite all spring. Don’t miss your chance to see them before the show closes on June 30.

Whether you’re an art lover, a history buff, or someone who just appreciates the beauty of Oklahoma’s roots, this exhibition is one you’ll remember.

🤠🖼️ Come see “Red Dirt Roots” before it rides off into the sunset!

🎨✨ Art Awaits — our second spotlight is here!

We’re continuing our twice‑a‑month journey into the vault, and this week we’re featuring our second piece: “Unlatching the Gate” by Western artist Dan Bodelson.

About the Artist:
Dan Bodelson is a celebrated Western painter known for capturing quiet, human moments of life in the American West. Raised in Colorado and New Mexico and later settling in Santa Fe, he brings a storyteller’s eye to the everyday gestures, landscapes, and traditions that shaped ranching and cowboy culture.

About the Artwork:
“Unlatching the Gate” reflects that signature style. It’s a simple moment — a hand on a gate, a pause in the day — yet it carries the rhythm of ranch life and the weight of daily work on the trail. Bodelson’s gift is turning ordinary actions into scenes filled with atmosphere and meaning, and this piece is a beautiful example of that.

Art Awaits invites you to slow down, look closer, and discover the treasures tucked inside the Heritage Center. Stay tuned… more hidden gems are on the way. 🤠🖼️

Happy Bike to Work Day!

It got us thinking… how would folks on the Chisholm Trail have handled things if they’d traded horses for bicycles?

But imagine Jesse rolling along on a sturdy frontier bicycle, saddlebags swapped for a basket, keeping a steady pace while the cowboys behind him tried to pedal through mud, storms, and longhorn traffic jams.

Would they have made it? Or would they have begged for their horses back after the first flat tire?

Either way, whether on horseback or two wheels, the trail demanded grit, humor, and a whole lot of endurance.

Tell us your thoughts:
Would the cowboys have conquered the trail on bikes, or turned right back around for their saddles? 🚲🐎
