110 years ago, Chief of Police Ernest H. Keller lost his life in the line of duty.

Chief Keller and another officer were walking down railroad tracks searching for two robbery suspects when they noticed two men walking towards them. Upon ordering them to put their hands in the air, a man opened fire and Chief Keller was shot in the chest.

The two men were citizens who were also looking for the suspects. The coroner ruled it as an accidental death and a case of mistaken identity.

Chief Keller was 35 years old and was survived by his wife. He served with the Drumright Police Department.

Thank you for your service, sir.
