Step back in time and discover how children made their own toys long ago! Join us at the Summerville Museum for our Harvesting History Kids Club on Saturday, September 12th, from 10:30–11:30 AM.

Kids will learn about this historic tradition and create their very own corn husk dolls to take home! 👧🧑‍🌾🌽

The Summerville Museum has opened a new permanent exhibit showcasing the elegance, craftsmanship and history of antique clothing and textiles spanning the 17th through the 19th centuries.

📣The Summerville Museum & Research Center is proud to announce the opening of its new Textile Room in August 2026, a permanent gallery dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of clothing, textiles, and fashion in the Lowcountry.

The exhibit features an extraordinary collection of antique garments and accessories dating from the late 17th through the 19th centuries, including elegant silk wedding gowns, Victorian mourning attire, children's clothing, and rare accessories. Textiles have long played an important role in Summerville's history, reflecting the craftsmanship, culture, and daily lives of the people who called this community home. From garments worn by early residents to the work of local seamstresses, milliners, and merchants, these historic textiles tell stories of family traditions, social customs, and changing fashions across generations.

Through rotating exhibits every six months, the Textile Room will offer visitors new opportunities to explore the artistry and history woven into the fabric of Summerville's past while helping preserve these fragile treasures for future generations.

Stop by this weekend during regular business hours to see this stunning new exhibit for yourself. Thursday through Sunday 10am-4pm. 💃👗💚

The backstory that we have is these portraits were found in the attic of 117 S. Oak St. In Summerville a number of years ago. On the back of the male’s portrait reads C. Lincoln otherwise, there is no other writing or identifying information.
