CITY MARKET ARTIST COLLECTIVE was my “Baby” for five years. I wanted to share some of the highlights of what made CMAC the award winning gallery it was. First and foremost was giving opportunity to some of our areas nest Artists. Ivana Milojevic Beck has gone on to not only be an incredible collage instructor but to also be represented in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions. Lucky for me she is also an extraordinary friend. At the height of the “Covid” era, I asked her if she would create an example of one of her enigmatic sculptural installations. Made of such diverse materials such as birch, sand and yes, swim caps. If you missed it here it is again.

CMAC was my “baby” for 5 years. I wanted to share some of the highlights of what made CMAC the award winning art gallery it was. First and foremost was giving opportunity to some of our areas best Artists. Had a great time with the Cohaire Indian Tribe last week doing some community outreach with them, accompanied by the film crew from PBS.I am also carving a large work to be placed in front of their community center. As Keith Carter, my point man and Cohaire representative keeps saying “Stay tuned”. I also had the opportunity to sit with a few tribal elders and chat. Very family oriented folks with strong commitments to their culture. This is a legacy project for me. Very grateful to be part.

Moving on. So I still get a lot of questions about the closing of CMAC. Even get some heart felt “sorry to hear”. I sure do appreciate that CMAC remains in folks thoughts, however, it was never a cooperative, nor as some former members even claim to have been “founding members”, of which there was no such thing. It was me doing a lot of work and I told all the wonderful artist that rented spaces that at most I would keep it open five years. Well after five very successful years I hung up my ledger books and got back to carving stone. My plate is thankfully full with commissions and one thing I noticed is I have accumulated a lot of stone. Beautiful blocks of Italian marble and alabaster, limestone and soapstone. I can’t possibly carve it all. So if anyone is interested in purchasing ( at cost) perfect pieces of carving stone. Private message me ( Paris Alexander) and you too can get cracking.

We are all saddened by the passing of our friend, colleague and fantastic artist Everrett Mayo. I met Everett several years ago at the urging of Eric McRay. Eric described Everett as a wonderful artist and great person. Eric was correct on all counts. I went to see a retrospective of Everett’s work at the Rocky Mount “Imperial Center” and was in awe of his breath of work. I invited him be a CMAC guest artist and he wowed a couple thousand folks that came to see his exhibition ( “PanAmerican Corazon”) February and March 2024. I then asked him to become a member Artist, which he thankfully agreed to. Everett had a profound impact on all the CMAC member artists and beyond. Please have him and his family in your thoughts. In the coming days I will put together a virtual revisit of his exhibition.
