Elsewhere is a world renowned artist residency and museum set inside a former thrift store. Be safe!

The museum will not have regular open hours until Spring - both out of caution for COVID and to allow us time to plan and make exciting changes to the museum. We will be open by appointment for private tours and visits with advance notice (contact [email protected]), as well as select small in-person events. We require masks and social distancing, and strongly recommend vaccinations. Sign up for our mailing list or follow us on social media () for invitations to upcoming in-person and virtual events.

Come feel what Residency #120 made! 🫧

Elsewhere’s doors are open this First Friday, for Leilei Xia’s Happening. An open evening celebrating the close of our first Foundational Residency of the year, all three floors of the museum are open to explore, full of interactive work that asks you to slow down, pay attention, and feel something. You don’t just look at this work, you encounter it.

Hear Leilei speak about their process and what a month inside Elsewhere’s living collection revealed to them. Then wander, touch, and experience what happens when a practice built around tactility and bodily feeling meets 60 years of accumulated material culture.

Open from 5 - 10pm, with Leilei’s artist talk/participatory tactility workshop starting around 7pm.

Free and open to all, but donations go directly toward keeping Elsewhere’s programs alive and driving our renewal. 🖤

Meet your Residency #120 artist, in our first Foundational Residency of the year. 🫧

Leilei Xia is a multimedia artist from Guangzhou, China. Founder of the tactile art collective Tactileye, editor of independent science zine Icosa Magazine, and Assistant Professor of New Media & Design at UNCG. Their practice moves through tactile art, experimental animation, video, and participatory collective work, exploring how the body feels and how art lives in the making of it.

They treat art as a verb. Elsewhere treats the collection the same way. Synthesis.

And it goes beyond just Leilei; as part of their residency, we’ll be welcoming their UNCG students into Elsewhere too, bringing these young artists and designers into this space to experience the museum’s site specific, closed system island that is The Collection.
