Did you know that this building was described in 1877 as "LEMANN'S NEW BUILDING HAS REACHED AN ALTITUDE GREATER THAN THAT OF ANY OTHER BUILDING IN TOWN"

I've not seen these fixtures on the "Lemann Building" as shown in image.  What was their purpose?  If this was for shade...
