Appalachian Women's Museum We are an all volunteer organization. We currently open on Saturdays and for special events and tours.

We are a cultural heritage site in Dillsboro, NC dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing the stories of Southern Appalachian Women past, present and future. We have been renovating the Monteith Farmstead to become the first 'live' museum dedicated to the history of the women of Southern Appalachia. When fully opened, we will be a cultural arts venue where visitors will experience live demonstrations of mountain life in this 1900 farmstead, along with rooms dedicated to women who helped shape the lives of generations to come. In addition to famous mountain women in history, we will feature stories about ordinary women, leading extraordinary lives! Please consider donating in memory or honor of some special woman in your life at appwomen.org.

We need leaves for mulching the garden beds. Please let us know if you can provide chopped leaves and schedule a time to drop them at the AWM before Tuesday, October 27. Email [email protected] if you have leaves to spare.

Thank you to everyone who attended, but especially those who came to all of the Third Thursday events the past three months. We couldn't have done it without you and your support!

It is time to put the garden to bed for the winter season!

Join is for a Garden Work Day on Tuesday, October 27, 10-4 pm! Wear proper clothing for working in a garden and being outdoors. In case of rain on the 27th, we will rescedule for Thursday, October 29, 10-4 pm. We have some hand tools available for the use of volunteers, but feel free to bring a pitch fork or shovel if you have one. Please bring your own garden gloves, snacks and water. Lunch will be provided by Fonda Cactus in Dillsboro.

What to expect for the day:
Tasks include mulching pathways, covering beds with leaves, cleaning debris and the garden shed. Volunteers are welcome to work all or part of the day. Please RSVP either by DM or emailing [email protected] by Sunday the 25th so that we can place a lunch order. Please make sure to provide the time you are planning on attending.

Today is the day!

Tonight is our last musical performance of the 2026 AWM season with Libby Rodenbough! The performance begins at 6pm and ends at 8pm. Feel free to bring lawn chairs or a blanket. You also have the option to enjoy delivery from local restaurant, Fonda Cactus!
