Meet Gaelen Renee Morgan!!
Art Noir Membership-Chair.

Gaelen was drawn to the Art Noir Board after she attended a few Art Noir events over the last year and really appreciated the way the group encouraged people to get involved with art in unique and exciting ways. I volunteered for the Membership Chair as a way to get involved behind the scenes, continue building relationships in the community, and help bring the mission of the board to life.

Welcome, Jackie Akerberg!!!
Art Noir Events Co-Chair.

Jackie's fondest memory of the Des Moines Art Center is exploring the Wanderlust Exhibit a few years back and dining at what was then, The Chef's Palette, outside in the courtyard overlooking the water.

Welcome Tina Ehrlich!
Art Noir Marketing At-Large 💻

I discovered Art Noir within the last year and it’s been eye-opening. After hearing more about the mission from past presidents—Liz Lidgett and Maggie Glisan—I quickly realized that I wanted to be a part of it. When I first moved to Des Moines in 2012, I, myself, felt intimidated. After understanding Art Noir’s focus to invite, welcome and engage new (and younger) audiences to the Art Center, I was thrilled at their efforts. To this day, I still meet peers who have never been to the Art Center, thinking that it’s only for well-versed members of the art community. I’m excited to advocate for the Art Center, their ongoing programs and opportunities for all community members—artsy or not.

Meet Megan Vollstedt!!
Art Noir's new Secretary.✍️

Megan's favorite Art Noir Event was the Sterling Ruby Recycled Glass Ceramics Workshop. After a tour of the exhibition, we used shattered glass pieces from home to create our own clay dish inspired by Ruby’s sculptures. It was such a unique hands-on experience!

Welcome Megan.

The podcast, and website, Iowa Music Showcase presents music artists from the state of Iowa. And I feel, being a website and podcast about Iowa, its covers and artwork should feature Iowa visual artists. I will tell you that it is done on a zero budget, and NO ONE, including me, the contributors, or the musicians, gets paid one bloody cent. This means you would have to do it for the same reason we all do, the love of Iowa music and the desire to promote it. I’m fine with using work you’ve done previously. You, like the musicians, get to keep all rights to your work. I only ask permission to use the artwork to promote the podcast and website. And although I’m not saying do it for exposure, I will give you as much as exposure as I can, giving you credit as the cover artist and providing any links you would care for me to share. You can see some work that some Iowa artists and photographers have done for us already at http://iowamusicshowcasesongs.blogspot.com/search/label/covers So if you’re a photographer or graphic or visual artist, and would like to help promote Iowa music, you can write me, Dan OlderMusicGeek Wren, at [email protected]. If you know anyone who might be interested, please share this with them!
