A garden star worth catching before the season ends!

Right now, the Picking Garden is putting on a show with ‘Purple Dome’ Aster, a compact cultivar of our native New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae).

You may recognize its wild counterpart blooming in frothy purple masses along roadsides and fields this time of year. Here at Graycliff, ‘Purple Dome’ brings that same vibrant color to the garden in a neat, compact form - especially striking alongside rusty foliage and softer, neutral blooms.

Have you ever noticed something missing from Graycliff’s rooflines?

Traditional exposed gutters.

Wright originally designed the house without them, favoring the clean lines of the architecture. Today, water is directed in different ways depending on the roof area – some flows directly from the roof into the sunken garden, while water from the balconies is carried away through a concealed drainage system that directs it away from the foundation.

The lady of the house is waiting.

As dusk settles over the cliffs above Lake Erie, Graycliff takes on a different character. Join us for The Lady & The Lake: A Halloween Tour of Graycliff, a 90-minute evening tour unlike anything we offer by day.

Begin outside with a guided walk through the gardens and grounds before entering the Main House, where Isabelle Martin herself awaits to lead you room by room through the home she loved. Hear stories of Graycliff’s architecture, history, and the quieter tales that seem to emerge after dark.

With candlelight, lake views, and a little mystery around every corner, Graycliff after dark is an experience you won’t want to miss.
