"In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow, Between the crosses, row on row..."

The red poppy has become a national and global symbol of remembrance and on Memorial Day it is shared and worn to remind us of our fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The quote is from the poem "In Flanders Field" written in 1915 by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D. who served on the front lines of World War I. It references the red poppies he saw bloom amongst rubble and bloodshed across battlefields in Belgium. The poem was published and its popularity aided the red poppy in becoming a symbol of remembrance across many nations.

The Gardens' York Street and Chatfield Farms locations are open regular hours today, May 25.

Please observe these adorable fluffs from a distance. Do not approach, touch or feed ducks or any other wildlife you may encounter during your visit. We and they thank you!

Audio:Oh, I wasn’t sad. I just needed a little of this, a little of bit of that, a little of this and a little bit of that.
