Meet Maki Teshima, one of the incredible artist activations happening at the Clyfford Still Museum for 15 Years of the Still on Thursday, September 17.

Originally from Japan and now based in Denver, Maki is a botanical dye textile artist who explores the beauty of natural colors to connect communities with nature. With a background in textile surface design from Osaka and New York City, her work explores how colors and patterns in textiles can quickly transform human emotions.

For our 15th Anniversary celebration, Maki is creating a site-specific installation inspired by Clyfford Still’s watercolor and oil paintings, dyeing silk organza and upcycled t-shirts with natural materials collected right here in Colorado (including local marigolds, avocado pits, and Pueblo indigo!).

We can't wait to see how her installation transforms the space for the night! 🌈✨

Meet Steven James Jackson Meyers, one of the incredible artist activations happening at the Clyfford Still Museum for 15 Years of the Still on Thursday, September 17.

Steven James Jackson Meyers is an interdisciplinary artist working in sound art, mixed-media sculpture, ceramic sculpture, and functional pottery. Tinkering with familiar objects, Meyers creates kinetic, pseudoscience-fair-like projects presented as fine-art sculptures. He uses a combination of obsolete telephone and modern technology to create interactive elements in his work, exploring ideas of communication and connection. Puns are his top-endorsed skill on LinkedIn, a testament to playfulness in his professional life, studio practice, and artwork. Meyers earned a BFA in sculpture and pottery from Colorado State University and lives and works in Denver, CO.

Call the Sculpture Hotline at 1-814-KINETIC to hear his recent work. ☎️

Come find out what kind of playful connections he will bring to our golden-hour celebration on September 17! 👀✨

Abstract or landscape? Figure or form? 🧐

As our curator Bailey points out in this week’s sneak peek, painting number four might look completely abstract at first glance—but look closely and you’ll start to see echoes of Still's earlier figurative and landscape works peaking through.

What do you see when you look at these details? Drop your thoughts (and your best guess for the year it was painted) in the comments! 👇

Reminder: Our current featured painting, PH-832, leaves the gallery on Sunday, August 24. Get to the Museum this week to see it in person before we reveal this next mystery canvas on Tuesday, August 25!

Have you had a chance to see PH-832 (1972) in the galleries yet?

Photos don't quite do it justice. The colors are even more vibrant in person.

Don't wait! You only have through Sunday, August 24 to experience this piece in person before it goes back into the vault. We’ll be swapping it out for painting number four which you can see on Tuesday, August 25.

Keep your eyes on our feed in just a couple of days for a sneak peek at the next mystery painting! 🕵️‍♂️

Your movement is the music. 🌊🔊 Step into a dynamic, living soundscape at the Museum on Saturday, August 22, for echosystems with artists Weather Citizen and Otodojo!

Part of our Still in Sound exhibition, echosystems is an interactive installation that translates visitor movement in the galleries into a real-time, cohesive sonic score. Simply by walking through the space, your presence helps shape the sound environment, mirroring Clyfford Still’s own energy, gesture, and resonance on canvas.

Included with Museum admission and always FREE for CSM members and children 17 and under. Reserve your tickets: https://clyffordstillmuseum.org/events/echosystems-performance/

Meet Tobias Fike and Matthew Harris, one of the incredible artist activations happening at the Clyfford Still Museum for 15 Years of the Still on Thursday, September 17.

Collaborating since 2010, Tobias Fike and Matthew Harris have dragged each other across the desert, wrestled each other’s shadows, and tried to catch glass objects while blindfolded. Their work addresses the everyday difficulties of human relationships through the lens of humor and absurdity. They have exhibited widely, including the Fonlad Digital Arts Festival (Portugal), the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (Colorado), and the OCAT Shanghai (China). In 2024, they performed a live version of balloon game “keepy-uppy” in the University of Denver’s Emmanuel Gallery.

What can you expect from them during our 15th Anniversary celebration? You’ll have to be there to find out... 👀✨
