Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum is Colorado’s Official Air & Space Museum. Founded in 1994 and housed at the former Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Wings is dedicated to inspiring, educating and entertaining the public about aviation and space endeavors of the past, present and future. As an education-focused organization, we understand the importance of open communication and learning. However, we do moderate comments made on our social platforms in order to maintain a family friendly and respectful environment. We are dedicated to providing visitors with a quality experience – both online and at the Museum. We address all constructive criticisms quickly and efficiently. Join us at Wings Exploration of Flight as we repaint our retired Cessna 150 with !

Enjoy a seasonal mocktail, while you work with a certified muralist to help map, tape, and paint a real airplane. Plus, enjoy learning about the history of barnstorming and bootlegging, perfect for spooky season!

Your artwork won’t just be a memory. The finished Cessna will be displayed in our hangar for future guests, friends, and family to see.

The F-16 is spreading it’s Wings. 🪽

Thank you, Denver, for showing up to support the Wings’ mission and joining us for this momentous occasion. Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month! Today and every day, we celebrate the Hispanic aviators, astronauts, engineers and pioneers whose stories are forever woven into history. We wanted to take this moment to share Everett Alvarez Jr.’s story. Commander Alvarez was an aviator during the Vietnam War and stationed aboard an aircraft carrier outside Southeast Asia. When called to combat, he rushed to his A-4 and began his mission all while watching his wingmen and avoiding anti-aircraft. Unfortunately, the Skyhawk was hit and he was forced to eject, quickly being captured by North Vietnamese troops, making him the second American POW to be taken into captivity.

Everett ended up spending over 8 years in the Hanoi Hilton before he was able to make it home. He endured hardships many of us will never understand. Yet when asked if he would do it all again despite everything, he answered “Without a doubt. I have no regrets.” This and other stories are why we celebrate.

Learning about women in STEM ⭐️

Retired NASA Astronaut Megan McArthur and Dr. Valerie Neal visited Wings this past week, and we were lucky to connect with them! Dr. Neal shared stories about the creation of her book “On a Mission: The Smithsonian History of US Women Astronauts” as well as Megan’s experiences in space.

Thank you for the visit, and for inspiring us about women being in space.
