Month of Photography Denver

Month of Photography Denver is a biennial festival that celebrates the art of photography through exhibitions and events across the Denver Metro region.

Every two years, Month of Photography Denver (MOP) invites you to celebrate the art of photography through exhibitions and events at more than 75 museums, galleries, art centers, and other participating spaces throughout the city and beyond. The next festival will take place in March 2025. Founded in 2004 by Denver-based artist Mark Sink, MOP has become a major highlight of Denver’s art scene and

an important platform for photography in the Rocky Mountain region, with works by over 500 local, national, and international artists on display. The 2025 festival will include two days of professional virtual portfolio reviews, workshops, artist talks, exhibitions, receptions, and more. For working photographers and artists, the Portfolio Reviews are a highlight of the festival. During this two-day event, registered artists have an opportunity to present their work to 30 of the most important people in the local and national photography communities, including museum curators, gallery owners, editors, publishers, nonprofit directors, and other leading professionals. The 2025 festival is presented by the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the understanding and appreciation of excellent photography through year-round exhibitions, education, and community outreach. CPAC will be the headquarters of the festival and is located at 1200 Lincoln Street, Suite 111 in Denver’s Golden Triangle Creative District.

Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) announces their fall exhibition, The Gravity of Light.

The Gravity of Light brings together seven contemporary artists who use light as material and lightness as a physical experience. Through photography, video, drawing, and installation, the artists use color, shadow, and contrast to emphasize how light affects our physical experience. Guest curated by Kate Petley.

Participating Artists include: Sami Al Karim, Bill Armstrong, Alyson Denny, Chuck Kelton, Anne Lindberg, Elizabeth Mead, Gelah Penn.

On display September 24, 2026 - January 3, 2027!

Call for Entry!

The centerpiece of Colorado Photography Week is the Colorado Pro Photographer Showdown, where five professional photographers each receive a $500 production stipend to create a 10-minute live multimedia presentation. They will present before a live audience and panel of
judges at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, competing for a $10,000 Best in Show prize, one of Colorado's largest professional photography awards.

ALIGNING VISION, VOICE, AND INTUITION — Portugal Artist Residency Applications OPEN!

This artist residency is led by Debe Arlook, instructor, mentor, interdisciplinary artist, and co-author of “Both Sides of the Table: Photography Portfolio Reviews Do’s & Don’ts.”

Set in a bucolic 19th century farmstead, Arlook meets photographers where they are in their practice, honing their visual voice and connecting with their artistic intuition, making new work or expanding existing projects.

Artists have ample time for personal reflection, studio time, single and group portfolio critiques, guided meditation, and excursions culminating with an open atelier attended by the public and local art community.

HOME: States of Belonging — in partnership with the Arvada Center, Colorado Photographic Arts Center, and Month of Photography.

HOME: States of Belonging brings together contemporary photo-based artists whose work explores the idea of home as something personal and constantly changing. Rather than focusing on home as a single place, the exhibition looks at how it is shaped by identity, memory, movement, family, work, and community.

This juried exhibition includes a wide range of photographic practices, such as photography, video, collage, installation, and work that uses archives or alternative image-making processes.

Call For Entry — WideOpen: Light + Time — organized by The Dairy Barn Arts Center in collaboration with the Ohio University School of Visual Communication.

WideOpen: Excellence in Photography reflects both the enduring legacy and the evolving possibilities of lens-based photographic practice today.

This year’s theme, Light + Time, foregrounds the essential elements that define the medium—light as material and time as both subject and structure. From fleeting exposures to extended durations, from subtle shifts in illumination to deliberate manipulations of process, the works in this exhibition examine how photographers harness these forces to construct meaning.
