Month of Photography Denver

Month of Photography Denver is a biennial festival that celebrates the art of photography through exhibitions and events across the Denver Metro region.

Every two years, Month of Photography Denver (MOP) invites you to celebrate the art of photography through exhibitions and events at more than 75 museums, galleries, art centers, and other participating spaces throughout the city and beyond. The next festival will take place in March 2025. Founded in 2004 by Denver-based artist Mark Sink, MOP has become a major highlight of Denver’s art scene and

an important platform for photography in the Rocky Mountain region, with works by over 500 local, national, and international artists on display. The 2025 festival will include two days of professional virtual portfolio reviews, workshops, artist talks, exhibitions, receptions, and more. For working photographers and artists, the Portfolio Reviews are a highlight of the festival. During this two-day event, registered artists have an opportunity to present their work to 30 of the most important people in the local and national photography communities, including museum curators, gallery owners, editors, publishers, nonprofit directors, and other leading professionals. The 2025 festival is presented by the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the understanding and appreciation of excellent photography through year-round exhibitions, education, and community outreach. CPAC will be the headquarters of the festival and is located at 1200 Lincoln Street, Suite 111 in Denver’s Golden Triangle Creative District.

Month of Photography Portfolio Reviews will be held Friday, March 12th and Saturday, March 13th, 2027.

Are you looking for opportunities to exhibit, publish, or sell your photography? Do you need feedback or advice about an ongoing project? If so, Month of Photography Portfolio Reviews are an excellent opportunity to advance your photography practice and career.

Over two days, you’ll have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with about 30 of the most important people in the field of photography, including museum curators, gallery owners, publishers, collectors, and other industry leaders from Colorado and the United States.

The 2026 Lenscratch Student Prize is now open for submissions!

The Lenscratch Student Prize supports the next generation of photographers by offering monetary awards and professional networking opportunities to artists creating innovative and compelling work.

First Prize includes a $2000 Cash Award and a feature on Lenscratch, a year long mentorship with Aline Smithson, a review session with Crista Dix and many more benefits. The LSP also has Second Prize, Third Prize, and Honorable Mentions.

Don’t miss the 2026 International Photography Competition at Florida Museum of Photographic Arts!

Sponsored by Visit Tampa Bay, this global competition invites photographers from around the world to submit their best work by April 21, 2026. Winning entries will be notified by May 13 and showcased in an exhibition at the museum from June 16 – August 2, 2026. Submissions are judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit.

The Best in Competition will take home a $1,000 grand cash prize, and all winning images will be printed and included in the exhibition in Ybor City, Tampa.

Albert Chong captures the historicity of his cultural kin by documenting Jamaicans in different communities. Each individual or group was given the opportunity to present themselves in a noble or respectful manner. Many, having rarely been photographed during their lifetimes, turned these moments into important milestones in their lives as well. Photographic portraits have become a normal and almost egalitarian ritual in western societies, but the same is not true in the so-called Third World. This ongoing project has enabled the artist to make contact with Jamaicans with whom he shares a cultural and linguistic heritage.⁠

Tuesday, January 27, 2026 - 6 to 7pm, the Anderman Photography Lecture Series at the Denver Art Museum, features Dr. April M. Watson, Senior Curator, Photography at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City. She will explore photography’s artistic aspirations in 19th Century France.

Illuminations and Ruminations: Photographs and Other Works by Albert Chong is a collection of Chong’s work since he moved to Colorado from San Diego in 1991, all the way to the present day. While his body of work largely revolves around photographs, Chong does not strictly limit his artistic process to one medium.

This exhibition also includes photomosaics, sculptures, and installation works. Throughout the works included in Illuminations and Ruminations, Chong relies on recurring motifs as a way of preserving and remembering the spirit of ancestors, loved ones and strangers alike.

The opening reception will be at the Emmanuel Art Gallery on January 22, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Use the code 6028249 for discounted parking at any campus lot or garage during the reception.

We've got some big news to share! Our festival is now a proud member of the International Photography Festivals Association (IPFA) — a global network working to connect more than 1,000 photography festivals around the world.

The idea is simple: build bridges, share knowledge, strengthen encounters and professionalize the field. A space where directors, curators, producers and artists can grow together, learn and keep expanding photography.

As we step into the new year, we want to take a moment to look back and say thank you to everyone who made the 2025 Month of Photography Denver such a success. From the artists who shared their work, to the museums, galleries, and partner spaces who opened their doors, to the curators, organizers, volunteers, and audiences who showed up with curiosity and care — this festival exists because of you. Watching photography take over the Denver Metro region through more than 100 exhibitions, events, and programs was a powerful reminder of how expansive Denver's photographic community is.

As we look ahead to the year to come, planning for the next Month of Photography Denver will begin in late summer 2026, leading into the next festival in March of 2027 — and we already can't wait.
