✊🏾 "What difference can one person make?"
Recently, I've been reflecting on this question. It is so easy to look to the leaders. To say "why isn't anyone doing anything?" 🛟 To wait for someone to save us.
Because it is daunting to try and change the world.
But then I remembered one of my favorite stories from history. The story of Georgia Gilmore and The Club From Nowhere. A group of average people who worked in the shadows and funded the Montgomery Bus Boycott. 🪧 🚌
Using the tools she had at her disposal, Georgia Gilmore organized people in her community to make and sell food. 🥧
🚙 The proceeds went to support a carpool network, allowing citizens to participate in the boycott (and still make it to work). They paid for drivers, car insurance, repairs, everything!
The efforts of the Club allowed the boycott to last for more than a year. And they raised between $45,000 - 76,000! 💰
Georgia Gilmore's story always reminds me that there are endless ways to support causes that you believe in. Just look to your skills and your community. 💪
