"Woodsy Trick or Treat"

For last several years, the Opera House Gallery has been please to showcase Lizzy Rainey and her beautiful, as well as fun and whimsical painting depicting scenes of kids enjoying trick or treating.
This year she brought 8 different pieces. This piece, "Woodsy", is the last one. Stop by the Gallery and enjoy her work before it to is gone.

This statue and fountain has an interesting history. Come see the play "The Carefree Years" at the Delphi Opera House this Friday, Saturday, & Sunday. Also check out Lizzy Rainey's Halloween painting of the same fountain at the Opera House Gallery. Many people have been working very hard preparing for this play.

The Delphi Opera House Photography Exhibition concluded last Saturday, August 29. Thirty-four of us gathered at the Gallery to view the exhibit, socialize, introduce each participant, enjoy lunch next door at Paretta’s, present awards, and take down the show.
The People’s Choice Awards drew 400 votes. Five participants tied for third place: Lesley Achman, Larry Hampton, Michael Jack, Ken Rabbers, and Jennifer Spence. Jeff Burns won both first and second place. Purchase awards went to Lesley Achman, Kaylee Cooper, Eric Schoch, and Debbie Wi******er.
Thanks to all that stopped by during the month of August to see the 60 framed prints of the 8th annual exhibit.

Located near Silverton, Colorado, Animas Forks is an old mining ghost town. Its first log cabin was built in 1873, and the settlement eventually grew into a busy community with 30 cabins, a hotel, a general store, and a saloon. At 11,185 feet, it was a harsh place to spend the winter, so residents moved to warmer Silverton each fall. As mining profits declined, Animas Forks became a ghost town by the 1920s.
Richard Frankel of Fishers, Indiana, captured this interior view of one of the cabins that remains today. This is Richard’s first year in the Delphi Opera House Photography Exhibition, and he already has an intriguing project underway. Inspired by the photographs and large-format film cameras used by early 20th-century photographer Edward S. Curtis, Richard hopes to honor Curtis’s legacy through “Time Was,” an antiquarian bookshop, print shop, and photo gallery he plans to open in Noblesville, Indiana, in spring or summer 2027. Curtis’s 20-volume set, The North American Indian, includes about 2,200 of the 40,000 images he created over 30 years. I look forward to visiting Richard’s shop.

This is Rudbeckia, commonly known as black-eyed Susan or coneflower. However, this piece is encased in ice and was photographed by Debbie Wi******er as it thawed. The formation of the large number of bubbles reminded her of a sparkling w**e, thus the title “Prosecco”.
This is Debbie’s fifth year participating in the Delphi Opera House Photography Exhibit, and she consistently brings interesting, unique images to share. She enjoys experimenting, especially because the results are unpredictable: compositions shift, lighting changes, bubbles form, and unexpected details emerge. Post-processing brings its own challenge, requiring her to let go of perfection and focus on the colors and patterns that appear. It is clear that Debbie has a lot of fun with her projects.
The Exhibition closes this Saturday with a luncheon at Paretta’s Italian Ristorante, next door to the Opera House, attended by nearly all participating artists. Guests are welcome to stop by around noon for social time, meet the artists, and ask questions.

Nancy Burge, a North Carolina native, graduated from Atlantic Christian College with a degree in Art Education. After her husband Alan’s job transfer brought her to Lafayette, she taught drawing, painting, pottery, and other art-related subjects at Tecumseh Jr. High for 30 years before retiring. She was inspired by her father, who was also an amateur photographer.
This is her sixth year participating in the Delphi Opera House Photography Exhibition. Her three pieces this year include “Glowing Sunset Cruise,” which captures a peaceful moment on Lake Michigan as a small cruise ship glides past during a stunning sunset.
The Exhibition closes this Saturday with a luncheon at Paretta’s Italian Ristorante, next door to the Opera House, attended by nearly all participating artists. Guests are welcome to stop by around noon for social time, meet the artists, and ask questions.

Today, Saturday, August 22, Delphi’s popular Indiana Bacon Festival runs from 2:30 to 11:00. In honor of the event, I present “Bringing Home the Bacon,” a whimsical image by Mark Sachs of Indianapolis, Indiana. This is his second year participating in the Delphi Opera House Photography Exhibition, where his two other images are also on display.
At first glance, this scene may be surprising. In another culture, however, it reflects a meaningful tradition. On the day before Mother’s Day in Cuba, a different kind of holiday preparation was underway. There, it serves as a centerpiece for celebration—a symbol of hard work, sustenance, and the pride of providing for family. This image honors that tradition in one fleeting moment.
Of course, displaying a pig’s head may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Come to Delphi, and we’ll show you another way to celebrate bacon!

Julie Knoeller is participating in the Delphi Opera House Photography Exhibition for the sixth year. Drawn to the quiet beauty of the natural world, she enjoys capturing those moments through photography. “Luna” is one example of the small treasures she has photographed over the years.
Julie is well known in the Delphi community and remains involved in many local efforts. She is a member and past president of the Delphi Preservation Society, which played an instrumental role in renovating the Delphi Opera House. She is also a current member of Chapel Gallery, a local artist co-op just down Main Street from the Opera House, where visitors can see more of her work alongside pieces by 11 other artists.
Julie and her husband, Christian, a retired Purdue English professor, live in a wooded country home near Camden, Indiana.
The Opera House Gallery is located on the square at 107 S. Washington St. in Delphi, Indiana.
Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This Saturday, during Bacon Fest, the gallery will open at 2 p.m. The Delphi Opera House is also hosting comedian Haywood Banks, and tickets are selling quickly.
