CJ-Caren Jo Shapiro is known as an openly political artist. In her own words: "As a member of the LGBTQIA community, as an outspoken intersectional feminist, and as a Jewish/atheist woman who has experienced discrimination and antisemitism, I use my work to highlight social conditions that undermine individual liberty and agency."

She is also a very talented painter and portraitist with penetrating insights into human nature. Her up coming show will highlight this part of her large body of work. The show opens August 14.

Born and raised in New York City, Caren Jo Shapiro is a visual artist, a psychotherapist, and the co-founder of Endangered Bodies. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts, a Masters in Social Work, and a Postgraduate Therapy Degree specializing in eating disorders.

Linda Schwartz will be at the gallery this Sunday from 1-4 to meet the public and talk informally about her work. The show's last weekend is coming up. It's a fascinating show and well worth a look.

Thanks to all who came to the opening reception of Linda Schwartz's show, Transition: From Clay to Wool. It's a beautiful show that fiber fans particularly will not want to miss!

Here are some shots of the installation for Linda Schwartz's show which opens this Friday. Linda is a long time ceramic artist who studied at the Tyler School of Art. In the last few years she has transitioned to working in fiber and the show will include both.

The opening reception is this Friday, July 24, from 7-9.

Come on out this Wednesday, July 15 at 7 PM to learn about the lasting legacy of conservation pioneer Gifford Pinchot and his family at Grey Towers in Milford, as Jared Simister, Interpretive Center Director of the Grey Towers National Historic Site, gives a presentation, "Conservation and the Keystone State", discussing the impact of the Pinchot family and Grey Towers on the forests of our state and our country.

Admission is free; donations are always gladly accepted.

Thanks to everyone who turned out on a very hot and humid July 4th to join us in opening the Delaware Water Gap Time Capsule from our nation's bicentennial in 1976! The capsule was a very solid steel capsule created especially for the event by DWG resident Bill Buzzard and others. To our surprise, we discovered that it was welded shut, but DWG mayor Larry Freshcorn came to the rescue and quickly cut it open.
Inside were a US flag that had flown over the US Capitol, a bicentennial flag, a large two-page scroll with the signatures of many of the DWG residents of 1976 (collected door to door by Jeanette Buzzard!), and some commemorative coins and other items marking the special year.
Dutot curator Marty Wilson discussed the bicentennial year, Dutot cofounder (and still board member!) Joan Powlus reminisced about DWG life 50 years ago, and we even had a woman in attendance whose mother was a teacher at Dutot when it was a school in 1923!
All in all, a wonderful way to celebrate Dutot, DWG, and our country. Here's to the next 50 years!
