This is a combined slow-mo shot through two Lohman Planetarium telescopes of the spectacular launch of the SpaceX Falcon Heavy Rocket 🚀 carrying the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. We are very excited to see what this next gen space-based observatory will reveal about our universe as it scans large areas of our sky a million miles from Earth at L2. This video is a combination of shots from our Lohman Planetarium Team - Seth Mayo and Christian Traverson as they manually tracked the launch from the KSC Press Site.

Last night’s partial lunar eclipse 🔴 🌒 was pretty spectacular, with the Moon reaching 96% coverage as 🌎 Earth’s reddish shadow swept across its surface.

A partial lunar eclipse, nearly total at its peak, will be visible across Florida Thursday night into the early morning hours of Friday, August 28. At its peak, about 96% of the Moon will be within Earth’s darkest shadow, giving it a dramatic reddish-orange glow. The lines of the penumbral lunar eclipse starts at 9:23 PM, but it will really be visible to the naked eye starting at 10:33 PM.

Overnight, the Moon will flush shades of copper, rust, and crimson as it passes through Earth's shadow during a deep partial lunar eclipse.

While this eclipse falls just short of totality, the view could be striking. At maximum eclipse, 96.3% of the Moon will be immersed in Earth’s umbra, its dark central shadow, creating a scene that closely resembles a total lunar eclipse: a darkened Moon glowing shades of red and copper against the night sky, with only a narrow sliver remaining brightly lit.
