One of the benefits of the basement remodel of the city museum is discovering a secret. While removing a section of the ceiling while cleaning, a few magazines were discovered (like someone hid them for us to find in the future). Their title was "Primary Days Makes Bible Truths Live". I believe these were published by the Free Methodist though Light & Life Press in Winona Lake, Indiana. The issue dates were January 27, 1952 and March 9, 1952.

We believe the building was built around 1951 as the Fellowship Hall for the Davison Free Methodist Church. They sold this building along with the church that was on the northwest corner of Fourth and Davison Streets to Davison Lodge #236 (Masons) in 1958.

The large parking lot east of Main Street and north of Mill Street was completed in August 1947 per the article in August 8 1947 issue of The Davison Index.

Did you know that the Davison Chamber of Commerce was created on May 9, 1951 when 89 local individuals met at the Davison High School cafeteria for a roast turkey dinner that was served by the Methodist Ladies? Seventy-seven of them signed membership cards ending a three-month drive by 14 young businessmen to create the organization. Articles attached are from the May 17, 1951 issue of The Davison Index.

One of the biggest and best-known landmarks that Davison had was the grain elevator that was built on the south side of the tracks. The article from the August 8, 1947 issue of The Davison Index said that John Cartwright had built the elevator in 1895 (other records say 1894). It caught fire and was torn down in 1992, lasting almost a hundred years!

In the July 25, 1947 issue of The Davison Index was a story about the Faber/Finck market that was located next to the Davison Hotel. What is really interesting is that there is a picture of Johnny Yauch taking care of the vegetable section. If you remember an earlier post of ours, he was the leader of the band (Johnny Yauch and His Rhythm Kings) that played at the Grand Opening of the Rollaway Skating Rink on September 17, 1947.

This gas station was located on the southeast corner of Mill and Main streets with the depot south of it. This article appeared in the July 18, 1947 issue of The Davison Index.
