NEW EXHIBIT "Capturing Cokato: The Legacy of the Akerlund Photography Studio" OPENS JULY 1ST:
Since it was built in the late 1890s, the Gust Akerlund Photography Studio has been used as a place to photograph the people of Cokato. Named after its main proprietor, photographer Gust Akerlund, the studio is now a national register site, complete with Akerlund's original equipment, furniture, and negative collection. In 2024, the City of Cokato was awarded a $117,001 Minnesota History and Cultural Heritage (Legacy) grant for the rehabilitation of the studio. The grant was funded by the people by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society. Until this project is completed, the studio will remain closed to the public. The new exhibit will provide a look into the studio's rich history and the early 1900's photography process. Some of Akerlund's equipment, photos and furniture will also be on display.

The exhibit "Capturing Cokato" opens July 1st at the Cokato Museum. The museum is FREE and open to the public. Hours are Tues-Sat from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. More information about the Cokato Museum and Gust Akerlund Studio can be found at www.cokatomuseum.org.
