A Tip of the Cap and THANK YOU! To Pasquale Arace for his baseball achievements that found him signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates and advancing through Rookie Ball to the high Class A+ Salem Buccaneers while finishing with a very respectable .264 batting average.

BUT even more importantly to Pasquale and his family who have owned and operated the Highland Restaurant since 1936. Known not only for homemade Italian dishes but also for the family atmosphere that has been a gathering spot for both young and old for 90 years.

So hats off and Congratulations to the Arace family for all you have achieved and contributed to making life here in the Berkshires so special.

Did You Know - #56?
1. 2006 - Pittsfield native Frank Grant is inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
2. 2010 - August 1 - Pittsfield native and former major leaguer and Brooklyn Dodger and Pittsburgh Pirate star, Gene Hermanski passes away in Homosassa, Florida.
3. 2010 - In the Cam Am League, the newest professional team, the Pittsfield Colonials finished fourth in the first of the season with a record of 25-21.
4. In the second half of the season they finished in first place with a record of 27-18. They went on to beat Brocton in the first round of the play-offs before losing to the Capitales de Quebec in the finals.

The Black Bears were Pittsfield's team in 2002 snd under manager George Scott they finished the Independent Northern League East in fourth place with a record of 24-65.

Berkshire County’s newest Museum is now open. Baseball in the Berkshires Museum is FREE and open 11 am-5 pm - Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the Lee Premium Outlets, Lee, MA. The Museum is located in Suite B 55, between Lindt Chocolate and Johnston Murphy. Our present exhibit is titled:

The Fascinating Story of
Baseball in the Berkshires

"The Fascinating Story of Baseball in the Berkshires" is a multi-media exhibit featuring stories that tell about the rich history of baseball in the Berkshires. Artifacts related to important dates, landmarks, events, teams or persons are displayed throughout the exhibit. You’ll find interesting stories about many of our local “heroes” as well as some about baseball legends and their connection to the Berkshires. Visitors of all ages are drawn into this exhibit not only by the subject matter but its interest to people of all walks of life. Our young visitors are attracted to the interactive children's display where they are able to touch, feel, compare and try-on the artifacts. Reading stations for our younger generation or our young at heart are created to share a story, baseball memory or a picture book. This exhibit ensures that memories will be made here and remembered for years to come.

Did You Know - #54?
1. In 2001 the Pittsfield changed affiliations and now are known as the Pittsfield Astros.
2. The Pittsfield Astros finish the season with a record of 45-30 good enough for a 3rd place finish in the New York Penn League.
3. Manager of the team was Ivan DeJesus. Outfielder Todd Self and Pitcher Brian Rodaway were members of the All-Star Team.

Did You Know - #53?
1. 2000 - The Pittsfield Mets ended the season with a record of 38-37 placing in 5th place in the division standings of the NY Penn League.
2. Infielder Chris Basak, Outfielder Ron Acuna and DH John Wilson all made the All-Star Team.
3. Chris Basak lead the league with a .349 batting average.
