Via Dolorosa

Via Dolorosa Life-size bronze sculptures by Gib Singleton depict the "Way of the Cross" of Jesus. Made possible by The Tia Collection. Museum of Biblical Art.

The traditional 14 stations of the Cross are included in a beautifully landscaped outside garden area on the North side of the museum. The final "station" depicts the resurrected Jesus, with Singleton's new sculpture, "Redemption." The garden will spotlight Biblical plants, trees and herbs and will include an audio tour describing the various features and their significance. The sculpture garden, when complete, will be free and open to the public during our regular business hours.

Our dear friend and icon of Dallas Philanthropy, Faye C. Briggs, passed away yestersay, January 22, 2019, in Dallas. Her Services will be at 4:00 pm on Friday, January 25, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Dallas.

Faye was a Charter Member of our MBA Guild for the Museum of Biblical Art.

She was a major supporter of all our efforts and events, providing her home and even underwriting the kick-off event for the Via Dolorosa Sculpture Garden.

The "Collonade" was named in her honor and bears a bronze plaque thanking her for her dedication to the museum. (See below)

She was one of our "Bridge Builders," making a monthly sustaining donation for ongoing operating expenses.

Her smile, her enthusiasm, and her dedication to this museum.. and to so many other charitable organizations, will be truly missed by all of us. May she rest in peace.

Museum of Biblical Art Offers Space for Reflection This Weekend

Dallas, Texas – The Museum of Biblical Art, 7500 Park Lane, Dallas, Texas 75225, is offering free admission to anyone needing a place for quiet reflection this weekend, July 16-17, 2016. The museum is open Saturday, 10-5 p.m. and Sunday afternoon, 1-5 p.m. And “to honor the brave men and women of the Dallas Police Department and those who serve the public on a daily basis, FREE admission to any person in uniform throughout the month of July,” Scott Peck, Executive Director.

“The museum hopes that any member of law enforcement or those touched in any way by recent events in Dallas, will come and be refreshed by this peaceful place,” Peck said. “Our outdoor sculpture garden, The Via Dolorosa, is always open and free to the public during regular business hours, but this weekend, we’d like to invite the public, especially those visiting from out of town for the funerals of officers killed in the recent attacks--to come by and enjoy the museum, to refresh and enjoy beautiful art in this quiet, air-conditioned environment. Hopefully, this will, in some way, comfort those who are grieving.”

The museum is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, having been founded by Mattie Caruth Byrd in 1966. It offers 11 galleries of fine art, painting, sculpture and a collection of rare Bibles, as well as the Via Dolorosa outdoor garden. It is located at Park Land and Boedeker Drive, just West of NorthPark Mall. For additional information, please visit the website at www.biblicalarts.org or call 214-368-4622 for directions. -30-
