What role does Black joy play in resistance and activism? š¤
For generations, Black joy has been both a refuge and a revolution.
Black joy is resistance because it refuses to let struggle be our only story. It is the laughter that rises in the face of hardship, the art that tells our truths, the music that moves us forward, and the love that binds our communities together. Black joy fuels movements, sustains those on the front lines, and reminds us that we are fighting for more than just freedom from oppressionāwe are fighting for the right to live fully, to celebrate, to rest, and to thrive.
On February 25, we are gathering to celebrate that joyānot as a trend, not as a performance, but as an essential part of who we are. Black Joy Unplugged is a space where stories are told, where voices rise, where art, music, and poetry affirm that we are still here. That we have always been here.
It is a moment to come together, to breathe, to be seen, to be heard. It is a reminder that in a world that often tries to break us, we build. In a world that tries to silence us, we speak. In a world that tries to erase us, we write our own stories.
There is no cost to attend. No permission needed to take up space. No barriers to entry. Just a space to be surrounded by people who believe in the power of joy, culture, and collective liberation.
