John Ewing reviewed Gail Norfleet's exhibition at The Grace Museum for Glasstire. In his review, John Ewing writes:

"...the greater quantum of delight found in Norfleet’s work comes from its fantastical convergence of shapes, colors, and ideas. In manipulating layers, the artist appears free to combine imagery from different sources, settings, contexts, and periods — a kind of collage of experience across time and place. Instead of chaos or cacophony, her visual magic tricks are nothing short of transporting."

Plan a visit to The Grace Museum in Abilene to see the retrospective exhibition 𝘎𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘵: 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 before it closes on February 21. Judy Tedford Deaton, Chief Curator at The Grace Museum, writes, "Gail Norfleet creates complex, vividly-colored and detailed compositions that reveal her love of nature and exotic locales. Paint floating on transparent surfaces reveal the artist's ephemeral memories as though compressed by time. Flowers, interiors, and scenery intertwine to create a heightened dreamlike experience captured within the frame." Valley House Gallery will open a solo exhibition of recent work by Gail Norfleet on March 7.

You are invited to visit Valley House Gallery in North Dallas to see the solo exhibition "Lloyd Brown: The Correspondence of Travel - Geographies of Time and Place" which is on view through Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Since 2005, Lloyd Brown has traveled across the United States on U.S. Highway 50—which crosses America from Maryland to California—to capture the essence of the country. Over the past four years, Brown has focused on rural stretches of road, train crossings, and small town intersections along Highway 50 in Kansas, Nevada, and New Mexico.

His technique has shifted to pointillist mark making using acrylic on rag board. Brown's inventive approach to shaping and framing his paintings using laminated and painted rag board to create curved surfaces and geometrically complex panels is an integral part of his unique form of landscape painting—helping us to see in new ways.

Brown firmly believes the world is composed perfectly as it is, with no need to shift anything for the sake of composition, even the debris of habitation. Lloyd Brown states, "A place can’t feel like a real place without the explicit details that a specific time reveals. The driving force of my painting is the democratization of everything. With everything being equally important, nothing can be left behind."

Recent museum exhibitions include "Passing Through" at the Tyler Museum of Art, Tyler, Texas, and "Rural Realism" at The Grace Museum, Abilene, Texas. In 2018, Valley House Gallery published a retrospective catalogue covering 30 years of his work. Lloyd Brown lived in Texas for 21 years and currently lives and works in Utah. Valley House Gallery is honored to present our 11th exhibition of Lloyd Brown's work.

Valley House Gallery is honored to present a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Otis Huband (American, Born 1933) from May 31 through July 5, 2025.

Otis Huband declared his intention to be an artist at age 6. He earned his BFA and MFA at Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William & Mary, now Virginia Commonwealth University. Subsequently, he traveled to Italy with his wife Anne to study painting and sculpture at L’Accademia di Belle Arti di Perugia. They returned in 1965 and made their home in Houston. After many years of providing art instruction, including at the Houston Museum School of Fine Arts and at the Art League Houston, Otis retired from teaching in 1982. Since then, he has devoted all of his time to the studio.

Otis Huband's daily studio practice begins by making collages to transition from cognitive thinking to perceptual impulses. Then, he moves into painting, independent of the collages. Otis says, "I never make preparatory drawings for the paintings because I want the delight and surprise of discovery. I feed on my subconscious reservoir to create a new and personal reality that is revealed in the act of painting."

The Opening Reception is Saturday, May 31, 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The exhibition is on view Monday through Saturday, 10:00am to 5:00pm, at Valley House Gallery, 6616 Spring Valley Road, Dallas, Texas, through Saturday, July 5, 2025. The gallery will be closed on July 4, and is always closed on Sunday.
