‘Enter & Turn’ by artist Greg Angus
oil paint and encaustic wax on wood panel
36 x 36 x 2 in
Encaustic painting dates back to ancient Greece, revived by artists like Jasper Johns, and continued today by Greg Angus. His work layers up to thirty coats of pigmented wax, scraped back to reveal hidden forms. Influenced by Japanese aesthetics, Angus creates images that feel like nature, cosmos, and body all at once.
“The Prize is the Soul. It’s about beauty, what captures us, what excites us, and takes hold so completely we lose all sense of ourselves. This is what it means to be alive - temporal, fleeting - existing somewhere between our body senses and Nature, towards insight, awakening and transformation.” G.A.
