One of my favorite pieces from Yesterday’s Mirror, an exhibition I had the honor of curating during the Black Wall Street Centennial, was this stunning work by Thomas Lockhart . The intricate details are breathtaking—even down to the reflection in the subject’s eyes.

Alongside the incredible works of Joseph Chavez, this exhibition was a testament to the power of storytelling through art. It’s a reminder that true artistry lies in the smallest details. As Leonardo da Vinci said: 'Details make perfection, and perfection is not a detail.'

Grateful to have showcased such powerful work that continues to inspire.

When the Greenwood Gallery was created in May of 2021, the intention was to create a safe space for artists of color and the community.  Many of you have asked and some may have heard by now, the Greenwood Gallery has been told it’s lease has been terminated and to vacate the space at Greenwood & Archer.

There has been a misunderstanding about the wing competition block party that took place on June 12th on Black Wall Street and the gallery is being accused of breaching it’s lease. The Greenwood Gallery has never had any previous issues  with the landlord so this sudden notice comes as a shock to everyone here at the Greenwood Gallery. There are many people that will be affected if the gallery has to close and relocate. We remain hopeful that this current issue will be resolved in a way that it allows me to continue to operate the Greenwood Gallery in the foreseeable future.

I would like to invite everyone out starting June 19th to our newest exhibition titled, “Eviction Notice,” which features art by the talented Tulsa artist Eddye K. Allen that speaks to not only what the gallery is currently facing but the importance of Ownership, Community, & Culture.

I would like to thank everyone that has shown so much support to the gallery throughout this whole incident. Thank you for those that created and signed petitions and those of you that have reached out and have asked how you could help.
