Culver City 1921

Hal Roach steps out of his car, which is parked outside his Hal E. Roach Studios, located at 8822 Washington Boulevard in Culver City, 1921. Most of the Laurel & Hardy movies, the Our Gang shorts, and many Harold Lloyd comedies were made at the studio, which was demolished in 1963. Source: LAPL

Say hello (to the actual life casts) of Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, W.C. Fields, and Edward G. Robinson. The actors themselves sat through the life cast process while they were contracted at the studios.
Come visit us on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays of October, we’re open from 12 pm - 3 pm.

Today we celebrate the history, character, and community that have made Culver City such a special place for 109 years. From its early beginnings to the vibrant city it is today, we honor the people, stories, and shared spirit that continue to shape our community.

Happy 75th Anniversary to Our Veteran’s Memorial Building🎉
Culver City acquired a major portion of this land, known as Exposition Park, in 1938. After WW11 it was officially designated as Veteran’s Memorial Park on August 8, 1949. A bond was passed by the residents of Culver City as there was a need for a community recreation center, restaurant, stage, and gymnasium. The ‘Tourist Tower” as it was called, promised great views of MGMs backlot sets. The corner stone was laid on April 15, 1950, and our Veteran’s Memorial building was dedicated March 9, 1951. The entry proudly exhibited a growing number of markers, placed in honor and to remember the residents - veterans who served our country and who fought for our freedom in many wars.
