🏆 Crosslake Area Historical Society | 2026 Non-Profit of the Year

For 55 years, the Crosslake Area Historical Society has made sure Crosslake's history isn't simply remembered, it's experienced.

What began in 1970 with a small group of local history enthusiasts has grown into the Crosslake Historic Log Village, where historic buildings, artifacts, photographs and stories preserve the people and places that shaped our community. Over the decades, hundreds of thousands of visitors have had the opportunity to experience that history.

One of the Society's largest undertakings was the publication of A Taste of History, a 576-page history of the Crosslake area featuring more than 600 historical photographs and numerous first-person accounts. The Society also continues to share our area's stories through its longtime Back Porch series and hands-on Saturday programs that introduce younger generations to local history.
And none of it happens without volunteers.

The Crosslake Area Historical Society is 100% volunteer-run. Volunteers maintain historic buildings and grounds, organize and care for artifacts, coordinate educational programs, raise funds, operate the Village Center, welcome visitors and take on countless other jobs behind the scenes. As one nomination perfectly put it, “It literally takes a ‘village’ to keep the Log Village open!”

Perhaps the most remarkable part of the Society's story is its longevity. For more than five decades, generations of visitors have been welcomed by generations of volunteers. The organization has been preserving Crosslake's history for so long that it has become part of that history itself.

Thanks to those volunteers, Crosslake's history continues to be shared, experienced and passed from one generation to the next.

Thank you to Essentia Health for sponsoring this award.

Join us as we celebrate the people, businesses and organizations that make Crosslake such a special community at the Crosslake Awards Banquet on Thursday, November 5!
Register by Friday, October 23 at crosslake.com/awards.

A big thank you to the Crosslake Log Village and Scouting America - Pine Tree District for co-hosting our latest Explore Crosslake meeting! We appreciated the opportunity to gather at the Log Village, learn more about both organizations, and see firsthand the many ways they contribute to our community.

We enjoyed hearing from Scouting America about the many opportunities available for local youth. There are programs for a wide range of ages and interests and they are always looking for more youth and families to get involved. If you know someone who would enjoy outdoor adventures, learning new skills, leadership, service, and new friendships, encourage them to check it out!

If you haven’t visited the Crosslake Log Village recently, it’s worth stopping by, and be sure to check out their Back Porch Series, which brings special programs and activities to the Village throughout the season. The Log Village is open Wednesday & Saturdays from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. through Labor Day, with the Back Porch Series offering even more opportunities to experience this unique Crosslake treasure.

And, of course, we had our Spin It to Win It! Our winners this month were Foggers Pest Control. Unfortunately, they weren’t present to claim the prize, which means the prize pot keeps growing! We’ll spin again at next month’s Explore Crosslake meeting!
