Thanks again to everyone, and a very special thanks to Dean Swan for honoring my father and his military experience during WWII. Even with the incoming storm, no one wanted to leave before he had finished his presentation. Outstanding job Dean. You captured the soul of my dad and shared that unique personality with others. WELL DONE ! It was an honor to our family and our community and we all thank you.

Had the weather not changed, I was going to say a few words about our family. My grandfather passed away when dad was very young. He left grandma with four children, Dad, Rose, Denny and Clifford. Not long after, grandmother Violet married George Martin. George had 5 children of his own. Dorthy, Ann, Chet, Mike and Bob. The two families became one and left quite a legacy to Crosby-Ironton and Deerwood. I'd like people to know that dads mother wore 5 stars on her sweater during the war years. Another lasting tribute to the Polich/Martin family. They (the entire family, spouses, uncles, aunts, children, grandchildren etc) have served our country then our community with pride and integrity for several decades after the war.

Finally, I want to pay tribute to my mother Eunice (McMasters) Polich. She was not only the wind under dad's wings during the war, she raised 5 children, Michael, Doug, Chip, Cathy and Donna all while working more than full time in the Sportsman's Club and Restaurant as its head cook and a thousand other roles. Mom was also the wind under her childrens wings as well as that B 17 bomber. She and dad were a team and share in the honor that was given at "A Night at The Museum."

We as a nation were united during the war. The spirit of those who came before us is just as important now as it was back then. Thanks again to the Cuyuna Iron Range Network for remembering the past.
