Well, dangit. Due to expected rain, NWF SHARE has had to cancel this evening's puppet performance of "W***y Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." But...the kids' talents won't go to waste. They're going to record the show and make it into a video, and they promised we'll get to have a showing! But for this evening, alas, there's no Golden Ticket

Hey everybody! We've got a Golden Ticket right here at the Bush House/Crestview History Museum to see "W***y Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" performed LIVE on our front porch. The talented puppeteers of the NWF SHARE homeschool group's advanced theatre class will bring to life W***y Wonka, Charlie Bucket and his Grandpa Joe, Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, and all the rest of the cast. "W***y Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" will be presented for one performance only this Friday, May 29, at 6 p.m. Tickets are free, donations to the Crestview History Museum are welcome.

Crestview is officially 110 years old this year. But unofficially, Crest View Depot, as it was originally known, was already in full swing as early as the 1880s.

To celebrate our city’s rich and sometimes colorful history, the Crestview Historic Preservation Board and the Crestview History Museum in the Bush House will host Crestview History Day on Saturday, June 13. At the same time, the museum will observe the Bush House’s centennial.

The family of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad’s then-track supervisor, Lorenza Bush, moved into the dignified American Craftsman-style house the railroad built for them sometime in the spring of 1926.

It’s now the History Museum's home, which will house several interesting and enlightening displays and activities during History Day, including rare photographs from our past — some never seen before — and displays about our community’s black heritage from the Carver-Hill Museum.

Older residents may remember the “Hasty Train” that chugged around downtown Crestview during festivals. The small scale, rideable train was crafted by Charlie Hasty who used to run the Sinclair gas station on U.S. Highway 90 West.

The train is one of the history museum’s prized artifacts and will be on display during History Day. Unfortunately, it isn’t operational yet, but HPD volunteers are in the process of refurbishing it. Because the board does not yet have room to display the train, History Day will be a rare opportunity to see a beloved artifact from Crestview’s past.

For those who want to delve deeper into Crestview’s moniker Hub City, local historian Bert Moore will offer “a practical and academic approach to the Hub City story,” as he put it. He will offer his presentation at 1 p.m. during History Day. His credentials are impeccable, being a lifelong Crestview resident, son of historian Jim Moore and having observed his hometown through many lenses.

“I have walked all through town,” he said. “I took a bus through town, I took the train through Crestview, and I even drove a tractor up Main Street towing a homecoming float.”

Crestview History Day will include complimentary refreshments, and since it’s also the Bush House centennial, there will be birthday cake for the historic home’s 100th birthday. For book lovers, the Friends of the Crestview Library will hold a book sale on the front porch.

“We’ll just have us one big ol’ happy day!” HPD President Ann Spann said.

Hello history and heritage buffs! Ready for a fun, enlightening and enriching experience? Bundle the kiddos into the Family Truckster on Saturday and pop over to the Baker Block Museum. Our friends there are hosting NATIVE FLUTES & TRADITIONS at 1 p.m., a program of Native American flute and drum music, with dance and regalia demonstrations. Bring your folding chair and be prepared to be amazed! Admission is free.

Hey folks. We're on-site and getting ready for the Race to the Rhein living history weekend! We just found out the parking lot next to the Senior Activity Center will be closed off Friday and Saturday, 24 and 25 April. If you're a vendor or exhibitor or re-enactor bringing your gear or displays to the Senior Center, you will enter the grounds NOT from the parking lot, but at the bend in the road, then drive the track down to the Senior Center parallel to the closed-off road. Got all that? We're going to try to put up signage. But we're getting ready for this weekend's Race to the Rhein! See you there!

We're just two days away from this year's Race to the Rhein living history weekend here in Crestview, Florida. Did you know we'll have an Honor Table set up on which you may display a framed photo of a family member who served in the military or on the Homefront during the war? The table will be set up inside the onsite WWII History Museum in the Senior Activity Center in Spanish Trail Park throughout the event. You may bring your framed photos (8"x10" preferred) to the Crestview History Museum today or tomorrow, April 21 or 22. Starting Thursday, April 23, take your photos to the Senior Activity Center. They will be treated with loving care and respect. You may pick them up at the Crestview History Museum starting Monday, 27 April. Who will YOU honor?

Hi re-enactors, exhibitors and military vendors for our annual Race to the Rhein living history weekend. At last, I have the registration up and active. I had a couple bugs to work out. Attached is the flyer. Here's the link to the Zeffy registration form. THERE IS NO REGISTRATION FEE except for vendors! (And there's no online registration fee to use our Zeffy sign-up.) We just ask re-enactors and history organizations to register so we know how many of you to expect. Please feel free to share this with your friends. See you soon!

It's work day at the Crestview History Museum! Several Crestview Historic Preservation Board members are at the museum today sorting materials; hammering grommets into history panels to be set up at the annual Race to the Rhein living history weekend; admiring a powder-coated history marker that had faded; and discussing displays in the works.

Our annual World War II living history weekend will again feature the Honor Table, a dignified and respectful opportunity to recognize your elders and ancestors who served in World War II, either on the front or on the Homefront. Bring your FRAMED photo of your loved one to the Bush House/Crestview History Museum by Wednesday, April 22. After that date, take your framed photo directly to the Senior Activity Center in Spanish Trail Park. Your photo will be treated with all honor and respect as it is placed on the Honor Table.

It's baaaack! Our old melodeon had been off to Florala for restoration and just came home this afternoon. It looks — and sounds — gorgeous! David Finch and his family worked wonders on the foot-pedaled reed organ. We'll have to have an evening of organ recitals now that both organs are restored. We'll keep you posted!
