đŸ’¥đŸ’¥Another entry from the journal of Lydia Arabella Peppard Bronker
May 6th, 1869
"A long long while since I have made an entry in this my own private journal, so long in fact that I scarcely know how or where to begin. The time has been passing along smoothly enough, no very great hills, no very deep hollows. Every moment has its records either of right thoughts feelings and actions or of wrong. Both alike have slipped my memory but that does not blot them out. God grant that I may have wisdom to see the right and strength to do it. And that my debts do not exceed and entirely blot out my credits. Well I believe the right thing for me to do just now is to go to bed and sleep and I think I have strength or weariness enough to do it."
Crestline February 10th, 1870
"If one is going to turn over a new leaf it may be just as well to commence now as any time. And to confess the truth I am sadly in need of reform. Here it has been just six months since I have written a line in this, my diary. Almost a month and a half of the new year gone and almost 22 years of my life. Aye, I can begin to look forward to the extreme happiness of being a free and independent old maid.
Since my last entry here, a whole family has been taken away out of our midst. James and Anna Day and their little daughter. Robert Moorhead died last week of consumption: and Mrs. Carnes, several weeks ago. Father is getting very feeble but is still making calculations for the future just as confidently as ever."
