A lil throw back to some great press last month for Miami based artist, .thenard who is featured in our Artsy Foundations Fair presentation. Sheherazade was named by as one of 29 emerging Black artists to discover during Black history month but her work deserves your attention regardless of what month when in. Daieny Chin’s new paintings from her solo exhibition, Mythos Unveiled, at Spring/Break Art Show lean into this year’s curatorial theme around interiors/exteriors. Daieny fills the spaces around her figures with real and imagined objects from her home creating intimate scenes that celebrate her Korean heritage.

Chins oeuvre delves into the nuanced contrasts embedded in her upbringing within a conservative Christian household, where the intensity of evangelical practices contrasted sharply with the clandestine embrace of Korean superstitions and folktales by her Mother and Grandmother. This collision of belief systems and practices echoes the broader tension between Christianity and Korea’s indigenous shamanistic roots, a dichotomy that gained prominence during Japan’s colonization of Korea in the early 20th century.

Many thanks to Fad Magazine, a curation of the world’s most interesting art, culture, style, tech and design based in London, for spotlighting artist Daieny Chin as one of the five stand-out artists at SPRING/BREAK Art Show LA 2024. Special thanks also to journalist Courtney Killough, who’s also a psychotherapist with a keen interest in spiritual psychology, for choosing to highlight Daieny’s work amid so much great art at the fair.

Our solo booth for Daieny, Mythos Unveiled, is open to the public through Saturday at 5880 Adams Blvd in Culver City Arts District.
