Wow!
Belgium’s long-awaited Gare de Mons has finally opened — after nearly two decades in the making. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the $374M station rises like a 160-meter monumental bridge, linking Mons’ historic center with the city’s new southern developments.
Unveiled back in 2006, the project became famous for its delays and cost overruns: construction began in 2013, the 2015 opening slipped year after year… until now.
With its sweeping white ribs and sculptural curves, the station echoes Calatrava’s iconic style — reminiscent of The Oculus in New York.
