In Topless Swimsuits Forbidden, Ralph shares another delightful romp with his favorite mythical maritime creatures. The mermaids cook fresh fish on the beach as their tails hang out to dry, suggesting the comedic notion that mermaids boast a wardrobe of interchangeable tails and treat them much the same as swimsuits.

Have you experienced Invisible Threads yet? It’s the exhibition everyone is talking about at the Cahoon Museum of American Art.

Through striking photography and deeply personal stories, Invisible Threads: Portraits and Stories of Our Global Neighbors introduces you to members of Cape Cod’s global community and the experiences that have shaped their lives.

Photographer Julia Cumes and visual collaborator Lipe Borges created the exhibition, which explores home, family, identity, resilience, belonging, and hope. It’s beautiful, moving, and an experience that stays with you long after you leave.

We are so excited to be showing Salley’s incredible work in 2027!

EXHIBITION NEWS! I'm excited that one of my favorite venues, the Cahoon Museum of American Art in Cotuit, MA, will host a large exhibition of my work next year. Natural Wonders: The Art of Salley Mavor will be on view July 21 – December 19, 2027. At its center are four seasonal landscapes – Frosty Morning, Mossy Glen, Harvest Time, and Summertime – a celebration of nature, imagination, and the passage of time.

The evening begins with an engaging artist talk, followed by a public reception in the galleries. Guests can hear directly from the artists about their creative process, inspirations, and current work, and enjoy light refreshments while viewing the exhibition.

Over 200 people came out for today’s open house and artist reception to celebrate community, friendship, and the artistry of photographer Julia Cumes and visual collaborator, Lipe Borges.

In this painting, Ralph Cahoon dresses his titular sailors in round hats, common attire for 19th-century men on land and at sea. He captures the common myth that sailors in the 1800s worked barefoot aboard ships. In fact, they bought cheap “slop” shoes and pants, which they wore out quickly during long days at sea. Ralph also takes the artistic liberty of painting one sailor's uniform jacket green instead of the standard navy blue, differentiating the two characters.
