What could possibly be hiding inside a dishpan-sized box?
Imagess. Color. Imagination. And the beginning of a wonderful creative connection.
When my friend Becky arrived with her artistic neighbor Savella, I had no idea that a simple lunch-tea would turn into an afternoon of discovering extraordinary things hiding in plain sight.
And then I saw what Savellia sees at the bottom of a coffee cup…

A Bird Was Hiding in My Scraps

What happens when a mountain of forgotten fabric scraps meets a head full of whimsical creatures?

A bird appears. Then two more creatures. And along the way, a creative dope slap:

Come inside the studio and discover how fabric yo-yos, yarn, beads, pipe cleaners and a little imagination transformed leftovers into creatures with personality—and why this playful experiment made me rethink what we call “ordinary.”

"It was done!"
I said it out loud, alone in my studio, as the final signature slid into place. Eight hand-bound signatures. Eight chapters. One butterfly fairy named Celestine.
I scanned the finished book, hunting for flaws the way I always do. Instead, I found proof of an old affirmation: little by little, one travels far. Stitch by stitch, signature by signature, she became whole.
That’s when a mischievous bee flew into my bonnet: What if …

Every art doll earns a book. Celestine's had to be shaped like her wings. 🦋

No instructions. No road map. Just folded paper, silky royal-blue fabric from the skirt of a no longer worn dress, and a hidden rod standing in for a butterfly's body.

Trial. Error. A few happy accidents. And slowly, a book was born.

Next up: the signatures. Stay tuned.

What if ordinary things have been quietly waiting for someone to discover who they were always meant to become?
In this week's newsletter, I'm sharing The Secret Life of Ordinary Things—the surprising journey of how forgotten objects can become storytellers, keepsakes, and works of art. It's a glimpse into the way I see the world and how everyday treasures can spark imagination, joy, and a little bit of magic.
You may never look at the "ordinary" the same way again.

Does an art doll get dressed... or built into her clothes? 🤔

Most people ask me, "Do you make the clothes first or the doll?"

The answer surprises almost everyone.

I was squinting at a needle. Then I reached for a Sharpie.
What happened next involved rubber bands, white marker blotches, and a butterfly fairy named Celestine.
This week's newsletter is a love letter to a teacher who changed everything — told through a Sharpie, a fairy torso, and a very unexpected lace bodysuit
It's all in this week's newsletter. https://conta.cc/3QTZMOj

A forgotten supply stopped my fairy mid-flight…
but there were other wins.

Beads turned into Whimsies on Wire—tiny, twisting rainbows that catch the light and the eye.

A scrap of clay became a traveling sculpture.

Paper destined for the fire transformed into art that will carry messages across the world.

There’s a moment in every doll-making project when confidence quietly slips out the studio door. For me, it usually shows up when it’s time to make the hands.
Tiny, delicate, and full of expression, hands can make or break a handmade doll. They ask for patience, precision, and a whole lot of persistence — and somehow, that’s where the magic begins.

his week’s newsletter begins with a rescued tote bag returned home from Nicaragua after a year of everyday adventures. What looked like a simple repair became something else entirely — a reminder that worn things still carry beauty, history, and possibility.
There’s hand stitching, hidden lessons, and a quiet question worth asking yourself: What could you rescue, reimagine, and release into
